“Made with whole wheat” o “Made with whole grain” no es el mismo.

If you are looking for a great makeup style with warm and rich colors, consider the soft and smoky look. This doesn't have to be done with just grays and blacks. You can use any color and apply it in a nice blended manner that provides a smoky look. Some of the more popular colors right now are, reds, plums, black, gold, silver and burgundy. These colors will bring out the natural look, while still screaming sophistication and beauty. With this soft and smoky look you don't have to overdo your makeup, the point is to accentuate your features and add depth to your look. Here is a gorgeous way to apply your make up to create a beautiful soft and smoky look.

First, you want to apply eye liner pencil to your upper and lower lash lines. You should use a soft eye liner pencil that is dark in color. You want to apply it as close as possible to your eye lashes.

Then smudge the line a bit, you can do this with the tip of a sponge, a brush with a flat tip, or your finger tip. You want to make it not appear too harsh, the point is to creat that soft and smoky look.

Use a normal sized brush and apply a medium or dark eye shadow on and just a little bit above the crease of your eye lid. You can do this in a back and forth sweeping motion, following the shape of the crease of your eye lid. Take a smaller brush and carefully apply that same color to just under your bottom eye lid, staying close to the lashes. This will help to create that smoky blended look on your eyes. Once you have applied the eye shadow, you can blend it into your skin with an eye shadow that is close to your skin tone, this will make your eyes look softer.

Apply your mascara to the top and bottom eye lashes, you can add length to your lashes by applying the mascara to both the top and the bottom of each set of eye lashes.

You will want to use a lighter shade of lip color and lip gloss.

For your blush, you will want to use a nice color that corresponds well with the color of your lip color. For a rounder face you will want to apply the blush to the outer parts of your cheeks. Otherwise, apply the blush to the tops of your cheek bones. Check the blush in daylight with a mirror. You want the blush to look natural and not too dark and noticeable. An indoor mirror can play tricks when it comes to your blush.

William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing is a comedy enriched with witty banter and entangled conversations. Throughout the play characters overhear false dialogue, battle each other with words, and jumble their vocabulary. In some cases, like those between Beatrice and Benedick, language is a sport used as a form of foreplay. Truth can be revealed through language as well. Claudio and Hero are quiet characters who do not speak much for themselves. For that reason, whenever these two characters speak their mind, one must really listen to what they have to say. Language can also reveal social status. Claudio and Don Pedro use language to show respect to others. Dogberry, on the other hand, confuses his words thereby showing his lack of social stature. Language, and the misuse of language, is vital to the characterization of Much Ado About Nothing.

Words are very important in Much Ado About Nothing. Shakespeare uses terminology that deals with speaking and overhearing words. The first line of the play is Leonato saying he has received word of Don Pedro's arrival. Don John states in act 1, scene 1 that he is not a man of many words. Many instances occur in Much Ado About Nothing where words speaking of words are spoken by the characters. When Don Pedro asks Hero to accompany him she replies by saying, “I may say so when I please” (2.1.76). Likewise, Margaret tells Balthasar, “I say my prayers aloud” (2.1.87). Words that deal with overhearing or speaking appear all throughout the play. By using words that deliberately conjure up images of speaking and hearing, Shakespeare is reiterating his theme of language. Alfred Hitchcock would reiterate themes by making a prop in his movie the main focus. Therefore, a simple cigarette lighter could help symbolize the theme of identity. Shakespeare uses a similar technique in Much Ado About Nothing when he uses words to reiterate his “noting” motif.

Not only do the characters woo and woe with words, but Shakespeare uses these words to reinforce a motif of ‘noting.' When Shakespeare wrote Much Ado About Nothing, “nothing” would have sounded similar to “noting.” To “note” someone is to observe, listen, write, or speak to them. During the play, many characters “note” each other. The plot against Benedick and Beatrice works purely on “noting.” Don Pedro drops hints, or “notes,” that lead Benedick into marriage. Hero and Ursula trick Beatrice by using her love of “noting” against her. Don John uses “noting” to execute his evil plan, while Dogberry uses “noting” to record the truth. Claudio must “note” Margaret and Balthasar under false sexual pretenses before he will shame Hero in public. Dogberry makes a written account of Borachio and Conrad's statements in order to preserve justice and truth. Dogberry uses “noting” again when speaking to his watchmen. When giving instructions to his men, he says, “Well then take no note of him, but let him go…” (3.3.25). Many instances occur in Much Ado About Nothing that require the characters to observe, speak or write to one another. By writing these scenes with words specifically dealing with “noting,” Shakespeare focuses on one object that will carry on an entire motif.

The banter between Benedick and Beatrice is an example of language at its best. Every time the two characters see each other they have a “merry war” with words, “they never meet but there's a skirmish of wit between them” (1.1.50-51). The first conversation featuring Benedick and Beatrice displays the two characters skill of wit and language. Therefore, it makes sense that these two characters cannot fall in love without some use of word play. Benedick and Beatrice are against marriage. Benedick is a glorified bachelor and swears he will never marry. He tells Claudio, “And the fine is-for the which I may go the finer-I will live a bachelor” (1.1.200-201). Beatrice, much like Katherine in Taming of the Shrew, is outspoken and wild. In act 1, scene 1, Beatrice announces, “I had rather hear my dog bark at a crow than a man swear he loves me” (107-108). Benedick and Beatrice compete to outwit each other at every turn, flirting and fighting go hand in hand with these two. Through their incessant bickering and eavesdropping of false words, language is a powerful asset to Benedick and Beatrice rather than a hindrance.

Not only does the “merry war” between Benedick and Beatrice show the character's match of wit and possible foreplay, but it is also used to make these characters conform to their environment. Language reveals social conformity in Much Ado About Nothing. Society needs marriage, therefore Don Pedro schemes and makes Benedick and Beatrice fall in love. He plays psychological mind games sure to bait Benedick into marriage and therefore into a proper social convention. In act 2, scene 3, Don Pedro says, “I love Benedick well, and I could wish he would modestly examine himself to see how much he is unworthy so good a lady” (184-186). By questioning Benedick's worthiness of such a lady, Don Pedro plants the idea of marriage in Benedick's mind. Benedick falls for this reverse psychology and immediately decides that maybe marriage is in his future. Meanwhile, Hero, Ursula and Margaret dupe Beatrice in the same manner. In act 3, scene 1, Ursula baits Beatrice by saying:

She cannot be so much without true judgement,
Having so swift and excellent a wit
As she is prized to have, as to refuse
A rare a gentleman as Signor Benedick. (88-91)

Ursula questions Beatrice's intelligence in the same manner as Don Pedro questions Benedick's worthiness. After Beatrice hears what Hero says about her, she decides to change her ways. Suddenly, the shrew is tamed and she decides to love Benedick in return. Through Don Pedro's reverse psychology and carefully placed conspirators, Benedick and Beatrice overhear the words that make them fall in love with each other. This conveniently placed love allows social conformity through marriage. Although both characters are against marriage from the beginning, by overhearing their respected friends speak of the other's love, they eventually relent and decide to requite love. Language not only changes the stubborn heart of characters, but it also reveals their true nature.

Don Pedro's language reveals his social identity. He is the highest ranking character in Much Ado About Nothing and reveals this hierarchy through his language. When speaking with Leonato he is always polite. The first exchange of words between the two are pleasant and friendly. Don Pedro greets Leonato by saying, “Good Signor Leonato, are you come to meet your trouble?” (1.1.77). Leonato immediately returns the friendly greeting and welcomes Don Pedro and his party into his home. Since Leonato rises in rank with Don Pedro's visit and Hero's marriage to Claudio, it is no wonder that he does not hesitate to host such a large group of people. Just as Don Pedro is polite and friendly towards Leonato, he is a gentleman to Beatrice. In act 2, scene 1 he even offers himself to her in marriage saying “Will you have me, lady?” (285). Each character brings out a different aspect in Don Pedro. However, with each character, his language reveals him to be slightly higher in social status. The only characters that are close to equal with Don Pedro are Claudio and Benedick. While speaking to his friends, though, Don Pedro still holds rank in the language. Don Pedro tells Benedick to “repair to Leonato's, commend me to him, and tell him I will not fail him at supper” (1.1.225-226). Even though Don Pedro is talking to a close friend not far below him in social status, he still has him serve as a messenger to announce his arrival at supper. Don Pedro shows his superiority by wooing Hero for Claudio through his loving words. He takes control of language by wooing Hero for Claudio rather than letting Claudio capture the heart of Hero on his own. Beatrice takes control of the language once Hero has been wooed. Hero is not even given a chance to reply before Beatrice says, “Speak, cousin. Or, if you cannot, stop his mouth with a kiss, and let not him speak, neither” (2.1.271-272). Just as Don Pedro took control of the language in wooing Hero, Beatrice takes control of it to finalize the courting process with a kiss.

Claudio and Hero do not have many speeches in which they speak their mind, therefore when they do, one must pay attention. Claudio does not speak on his own until act four, scene one when he defaces Hero in front of everyone. Claudio attacks Hero by saying, “You are more intemperate in your blood than Venus or those pampered animals that rage in savage sensuality” (4.1.57-59). Shakespeare creates a harsh oxymoron by juxtaposing “savage” and “sensuality” creating a dynamic contrast of polar opposites. The unsympathetic word “savage” with the passionate word “sensuality” startles the reader. At the same time, Claudio uses harsh diction and strong assonance to accentuate his anger. His attack is vicious and stings and, for once, Don Pedro is not speaking for him. Hero talks back in this scene saying, “I talked with no man at that hour, my Lord” (4.1.85). Just as Claudio has found a voice against Hero, she finds hers fighting against him. Another section worth noting is when Hero, Ursula and Margaret talk about Beatrice. Their words are supposed to be startling, for only strong words will force Beatrice to change her ways. Hero is allowed to speak her mind in this scene because it is under the pretense of a joke. Since she is supposed to be driving Beatrice to change her ways and marry Benedick, she can say the harsh truth that she really feels. Hero attacks her cousin by saying:

Disdain and scorn ride sparkling in her eyes,
Misprising what they look on, and her wit
Values itself so highly that to her
All matter else seems weak. She cannot love,
Nor take no shape nor project of affection,
She is so self-endeared (51-56).

The above words are particularly harsh when spoken by Hero, the soft-spoken pleasant girl in the play. Although the words are supposed to be biting in order to bait Beatrice, one must wonder if Hero steps over a line here in saying that “scorn ride sparkling in her eyes” (3.1.51). Claudio and Hero do not make a habit of speaking their mind or saying anything harmful, yet each character has a turn to reveal their true thoughts throughout the play. Whenever the soft-spoken characters lash out at others, one must notice how strong are the words the characters uses.

Every play must have a villain and Much Ado About Nothing is no exception. Don John is the villain here, the outsider, the bastard. Don John's full name in the list of characters is Don John, the bastard brother of Don Pedro. Immediately, before the character has said a word, he is condemned. In the first act, Leonato welcomes Don John along with his brother. Don John says, “I thank you. I am not of many words, but I thank you” (1.1.127). Even though later in the play his words slander Hero's name, Don John states he is not of many words. In exact opposition to Don Pedro, Don John speaks very little in Much Ado About Nothing, yet his words are more important than the ones Don Pedro speaks. Don Pedro speaks words of love and even though he is involved in trickery, it is for a greater good. Don John, however, contrives to ruin Don Pedro by ruining Claudio and Hero. His plan against Hero is so viciously thought out that it resonates more than Don Pedro's schemes. The night before Claudio and Hero marry, Don John conspires, “The word is too good to paint out her wickedness…Go but with me tonight, you shall see her chamber window entered, even the night before her wedding day. If you love her then, tomorrow wed her. But it would better fit your honour to change your mind” (3.2.91-97). Just as Don Pedro planted the idea of love in Benedick's mind, Don John plants the seed of hate in Claudio's.

From the very beginning the audience notes that Dogberry and Verges are conscious of the importance of language but oblivious as to the correct ways to use it. Both of them do their best to sound important, yet fail by saying a malaprop instead. The first line Verges speaks he means to say “damnation,” but instead says “salvation” (3.3.2). Immediately he has praised these men instead of cutting them down as was intended. Other instances occur making Verges out to be the proficient follower. Much like Watson to Sherlock, Verges seems to be the brains behind the operation. While Dogberry is giving instructions to the watchman, he stumbles on how to recognize a Prince's man. Verges steps in by saying, “If he will not stand when he is bidden he is none of the Prince's subjects” (3.3.28-29). Dogberry concurs and goes about his instructions.
Dogberry talks in a manner all his own. In act 5, scene 1, he addresses Don Pedro saying, “Marry, sir, they have committed false report, moreover they have spoken untruths, secondarily they are slanders, sixth and lastly they have belied a lady, thirdly they have verified unjust things, and to conclude, they are lying knaves” (202-205). In these three lines Dogberry strays from every convention in language. Instead of going in numerical order he jumps around like a character in a Monty Python film. Also, like every other speech Dogberry makes, he confuses words for another meaning. He says “slanders” instead of “slanderers.” Dogberry's speech is unique in several ways. In the manner in which Dogberry states the offenses he repeats himself straight away. If he were to give the accounts in a chronological order, he would not directly repeat himself. Every proof of evidence he has repeats itself as soon as he says it, therefore instead of having six accounts of perjury, Dogberry has one long-winded accusation that can be categorized into three almost separable parts. His choppy way of speaking shows his inability to fit in with the upper class environment. All the other characters in the play speak fluently, but Dogberry's speech is always fragmented. Dogberry is an immigrant to the high class society. Instead of constructing whole and logical sentences, he speaks in bloated fragments incapable of grasping the fluid way everyone else speaks.

Just like the Duke in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Don Pedro accommodates Dogberry as he relates to him his story of the criminals. When Dogberry addresses Don Pedro with his speech of illogical order, Don Pedro responds, “This learned constable is too cunning to be understood” (5.1.212-213). Don Pedro adds to the humor here by pointing out Dogberry's fault. He calls him “learned” which could be an insult considering all the mistakes Dogberry is likely to make. One could assume that Don Pedro does not think the constable is learned and instead thinks he is a commoner one must bend to. Deference and accommodation work together here to save the day and return Hero to Claudio. Through the precise style of Don Pedro's speech, the audience knows immediately that he is an upper class character and respected. In direct contrast, through Dogberry and Verges' cluttered way of speaking, the audience immediately sees that these lowly creatures stand out from their environment. The commoners, although they try, will never fit in. The truth about the status of characters is exposed to the audience by the eloquence or malaprop of language throughout Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing.

Characters reveal the truth about themselves through language. Benedick and Beatrice battle each other with words, revealing to the audience that they are equally matched in wit and intellect. Don Pedro proves his superiority by the tricks he forces upon the feisty lovers. By using psychological mind games, he convinces Benedick and Beatrice that they are in love with each other. Benedick and Beatrice were on the outside of society because they were glorified singles, something not acceptable in Shakespeare's time. Don Pedro's victory over Benedick and Beatrice produces love and social conformity. Claudio and Hero reveal their true selves by speaking for themselves. Throughout most of the play, Claudio and Hero are spoken for by someone else. Therefore, whenever these two soft-spoken characters speak up, one must pay close attention to what they have to say. Dogberry and Verges display their misunderstanding of communication through their constant muddling of terms. As soon as these characters open their mouths, the audience can see they do not belong in their surroundings. Language and the misuse of language allows the audience to see the true character and social status in each of the characters in Much Ado About Nothing.

Can You Attend Traffic School More Than Once Every 18 Months in California? YES!

Did you know you can attend traffic school more than once within 18 months?

If you're a licensed driver in California, then you may have fallen victim to the dreaded red and blue lights of a police vehicle or California Highway Patrol (CHP). Hopefully it was for something as simple as a speeding ticket than for something serious like a DUI (Driving Under the Influence).

If you have been lucky enough to not have received a minor traffic violation ticket, you should still keep reading as you may get one someday or you may know someone who has and this can help them.

What happens when you get a minor traffic violation (like a speeding ticket)?

Once you get pulled over, you have to sign a ticket… signing the ticket does not admit guilt; keep that in mind. Signing the ticket just means you make a promise to appear in court regarding this traffic violation.

Within about 2 weeks later, you will receive your courtesy notice from the court regarding your ticket. In the notice, you will be told your court date, your ticket fine, and if you can attend traffic school. Many people will opt to pay the additional fee of traffic school in order to keep the ticket off their DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) record and to keep their car insurance from going up.

Typically a minor moving violation such as a speeding ticket will result in one point on your DMV driving record. This one point could result in an increase of your car insurance by $30 per month. That's over $300 per year! Since a speeding ticket will stay on your DMV driving record for 3 years, your insurance could be affected by over $900!

How often can you go to traffic school?

In the courtesy notice from the court, you will be told you may attend traffic school if you have not previously attended traffic school within the past 18 months. If you choose to attend traffic school, you have a couple of options.

You can attend an authorized traffic school course such as the “Comedy Traffic School” or you can attend an approved online course. You are required to take a minimum of 8 hours of traffic school and must return your certificate of completion to the court by the required date. You will have to pay additional fees to the school as well - typically about $20 to $40 depending on the course.

But what happens if within the next 18 months you receive a second speeding ticket? Or even a third? Are you doomed to have that point show up on your DMV record and have your car insurance raised on you? No!

You can attend traffic school again under the California Vehicle Code Section 41501(a). A few points about this code: (1) You must appear in court and ask the Judge to grant you permission to attend traffic school under this code. (2) You must attend a minimum of 12 hours of traffic school - the Judge can mandate even more hours based on his/her choosing. (3) You cannot complete traffic school on-line.

This will still keep the point off of your DMV driving record and your car insurance will most likely not be affected by your traffic infraction.

What does California Vehicle Code Section 41501(a) actually say?

To read the actual vehicle code, go to: http://dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d17/vc41501.htm

How can I say bye to the thrill of thriller?

How can I say bye to the footsteps of the moonwalker?

I will say Hi! To you,

Whenever I stumble upon your music,

I will say Hi! To you,

Whenever I come across little MJ

I will say Hi! To you whenever a song from you,

Makes me experience life,

And helps me sail across the turbulent times,

With a big smile on my face,

Only God knew,

What you went through before each concert,

But still you never failed,

To spread smile and cheers across the globe,

How can death make any difference when,

And, you, will be the soul of music

When the warmth of the day comforts the air the all-seeing eye in every form is over you as you tread the paths of life. When the wind was blowing, shrill and shrewd, the all-seeing eye is also there marking every movement in the temper of the winds. When the setting of the sun released the shadows imprisoned all day, which now closed in and gathered like mustering swarms of dark spirits, the all-seeing eye calculates every movement engraved in different images. When the dark shadows stood lowering all about from the far corners of rustic places, ends of lanes and behind trees and bushes, the all-seeing eye was near when things that might have been, and never was, always wandering.

“The common eye sees only the outside of things, and judges by that, but the 'all seeing eye' pierces through, and reads the heart and the soul, finding there capacities which the outside didn't indicate or promise, and which the other kind couldn't detect.” - Mark Twain

The world is full of eyes. The all-seeing eye is a universal symbol representing spiritual sight, inner vision, higher knowledge, and insight into occult mysteries. The all-seeing eye for all mankind is a powerful symbol of protection, health and wisdom. There is the eye of water, which soothes the soul, and the eye of land, which offers refuge of the mind..

The Bible’s interpretation of the ‘all-seeing eye’ can be found in the Book of Genesis in the creation of man. The crafty snake promised Adam and Eve that their eyes would “be opened” if they ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. The key word in this passage is eyes, which in Hebrew can be translated “knowledge.” Opened can be translated “broadened.” What the Serpent promised Adam and Eve was that knowledge would be broadened if they ate of the forbidden fruit.

But the most foreboding aspect of this scripture emerges from the fact that the Hebrew word for “eyes” is not plural, but singular. What the Serpent actually told Adam and Eve was that their “eye” would be broadened by knowledge. The “eye” that the text of the Bible wants us to consider is not the physical organ of sight, but the eye of the mind or the soul. (1)

‘The all-seeing eye’, …to the Egyptian initiates was the emblem of Osiris, the Creator. “… His power was symbolized by an Eye over a Scepter. The Eye of Mind or the Eye of Horus… and conveying the idea of the 'all-seeing eye'. The end set before the Egyptian neophyte was illumination, that is to be 'brought to light'. The Religion of Egypt was the Religion of the Light.” The Sun was termed by the Greeks the Eye of Jupiter, and the Eye of the World. In Hindu symbolism “the eye of Shiva – the all-seeing eye which directs the will and purposes of the Deity.”

“That ray of His, becoming sight, is present in all his children, whoever see it, by means of the ray that he sees…” - Brahmanas

The exploration of the new world in the 15th and 16th century was done for completely different reasons between the English colonists and the Spanish explorers. The areas that were settled by each group was one of the major differences to begin with, but these areas had much to do with the continuing exploration of the areas.

The English colonists faced extreme hardship in England and sought to find a land where they could worship their religion without being persecuted. The English government was killing people because they did not worship the same religion that the king did, so the colonists fled for their lives.

Once they reached America, they formed a few colonies. The first colony was Jamestown. Jamestown was the first English colony founded in the new land. Jamestown was located in what today is known as the New England states. The hardship of creating a new colony with nothing is hard enough, without having to deal with the weather in the New England states. Jamestown Colony was the first permanent English settlement in North America, located near present-day Williamsburg, Virginia. Established on May 14, 1607, the colony gave England its first foothold in the European competition for the New World, which had been dominated by the Spanish since the voyages of Christopher Columbus in the late 15th century (Jamestown Colony).

The weather was the first hardship that the colonists faced. Without proper shelter and time to build the shelter they needed, many of the colonists died in the first winter because of disease from the cold.

After the colonists survived through the first winter, they soon faced more hardship when the met the Native Americans. At first, they thought that the Native Americans were there to kill them, and lived in fear of them. After some time, they realized that the Native Americans could help them learn the land and be able to live successfully in their colony.

This is one of the only times that the colonists lived in peace with the Native Americans. Soon after, the Native Americans would become enemies because the colonists would continue to explore and expand and take the Native American’s land.

Another challenge the colonists of Jamestown faced was the lack of resources. They had nothing to start their colony with. They had to start at the beginning and do everything from scratch. This made it extremely difficult for most of the colonists because England was a fruitful city and there was no need to find resources from the land. This turned out to be a major challenge.

Finally, maybe the biggest challenge that the colonists faced was the inability to fight disease. Disease ravaged the colony because there were no doctors or cures for the diseases since they had nothing in the new colony. Many of the colonists died when diseases hit the colony.

There were also small challenges that faced the colonists every day. There were animal attacks such as wolves and bears, bad storms, lack of food that damaged the colonists moral daily. These are all things that they took granted for before they came to America to make their own colony, and now they had to deal with it on a daily basis.

The soil was not what they were used to and they had a very hard time growing food. The only reason that they finally were able to grow any food at all was because the Native Americans helped show them how to plant and take care of corn. This was a lifesaver because without food, there was absolutely nothing that could make the colonists survive.

All of this was worth it to them, though. They had dealt with much worse in England. They were being killed for the beliefs. As some of the colonists said while they were in America, they would rather die of hunger than die for their religion. So, it made sense to them to deal with these hardships.

The Spanish colonists had a completely different reason for exploring the new world. They also dealt with hardships, but not in the same way that the English colonists dealt with them.

The Spanish colonists came to America in search of new land and a new trade route to the Philippines so that they could trade their items for riches. Since the only way to the Philippines was through the mountains in Asia, it was a very dangerous way to go. So the Spanish explorers decided that it would be easier if they found an alternative route to the Philippines by going around the ocean.

This plan would have worked if the Americas would not have been in the way. When the Spanish explorers found the Americas, they found much more than they were hoping for. The first explorers that set foot in the Americas soon found the Incan’s, Aztec’s, and Mayan’s. These cultures had been living in the America’s for centuries without disturbance. The thing that caught the eye of the Spanish explorers was the riches that these three cultures possessed.

So the Spanish colonists set out to colonize the area with these three cultures and make it and their riches their own. While they attempted to do this, they fell into many hardships that they did not see in their future. “Spanish conquest in the New World was driven by the three 'G's—gold, glory, and gospel. In his drive to gather riches, Columbus (and later conquistadors) enslaved and decimated the local populations” (Spanish Discovery and Colonization).

The first hardship that they had in front of them was war. The cultures that owned the land before they came would not surrender their land easily. The Spanish colonists sent bribe after bribe to the Incan’s, Aztec’s, and Mayan’s and nothing worked. So, finally, they decided that the only way that they were going to get the land was to take it by force. They gathered what army they could and attacked the established civilizations. They eventually won the battles, but it was not because they had a better army. The Spanish colonists had many diseases that the civilizations had never experienced before. These diseases wiped out masses of people, and in the end caused the fall of the great civilizations.

In return, disease from these civilizations also affected the Spanish colonists. Just as the civilizations had not experienced the Spanish diseases, the Spanish colonists had not experienced the Incan diseases. This was another hardship which the Spanish colonists had to suffer through. These diseases ended up wiping out a large portion of the Spanish colonists.

The Aztec kingdom in Mexico is conquered in 1521, followed by a campaign against the Maya in Yucatan. Central America, from Guatemala to Nicaragua, is brought under Spanish control between 1524 and 1526. In the southern part of the continent the coast of Venezuela (where the rich pearl fisheries are a powerful lure) is the first region to attract Spanish settlers, from 1523. Down the west coast, the Inca kingdom in Peru is overwhelmed in 1533; Ecuador and Colombia are subdued later in the 1530s; and most of Chile is gradually brought under control during the 1540s (HISTORY OF THE SPANISH EMPIRE).

After the Spanish had conquered the land and claimed it as their own, another challenge lay ahead them. The pope decided that he would divide the land between the Spanish and the Portuguese. These two cultures were bitter enemies and they would end up fighting over the land until it would be finally settled in Spain who the ruler of each part of the land was.

The Spanish colonists faced many hardships in their quest to conquer all the land in the Americas. Throughout their quest, they faced disease, hunger, war, and the new land. They would stumble upon tribes that would create a surprise attack on them and kill a quarter of the men. These little challenges that they faced every day eventually added up and began to demoralize the Spanish colonists.

There are a lot of differences between the Spanish colonists and the English colonists. The Spanish colonists came to the Americas to gain new land and build to their empire, while the English colonists came to the new land to get away from persecution. Even though both of the separate colonists came to the Americas for entirely different reasons, they both faced extremely challenging hardships that many of them did not survive.

The hardships that the colonists faced were caused directly by why the colonists came to the Americas. The English colonist’s hardships were food, water, disease, and shelter. These hardships were created because they ran away from their country without knowing what they were doing, where they were going, and how they were going to survive. The Spanish colonists ran into hardships such as water, war, disease, and death. These hardships were created because they came to the Americas to expand their empire and conquer every land that was available for them to conquer.

Cordless phones with talking caller ID come in many models with tons of features. Talking caller ID is a feature that has so many upsides. You no longer have to fumble for the handset or run to the base to see who is calling. Suppose you are watching a game on TV and you just do not want to take a call. The talking caller ID feature lets you keep your eyes on the game and tells you who is calling while you go on uninterrupted. This feature is also good for those who are blind or whose site is impaired. We picked our 5 with talking caller ID being main requirement. We also reviewed only phones that are at least 1.9 GHz.

5. Panasonic KX-TG9371B

DECT 6.0 Drop & Splash Resistant Expandable Digital Cordless Phone

Upon first sight, this phone is very appealing. The carbon fiber face of the handset is attractive and the design of the base is small and unobtrusive. Hooking the phone up was very easy and took less than 5 minutes from the time the box was opened until the handset was charging. A definite downside was the 7 hour initial charge time that is recommended. You can't give a techie a toy and expect her not to play with it for 7 hours! The unit is expandable to 6 handsets, which is a bonus if you have a large family. It also boasts shock resistance in case the headset is dropped, and water resistance in case the phone is splashed or rained on. The call clarity is the only thing that kept this phone in the number 5 position on our list. The clarity is not bad, but the other phones we picked are outstanding!

Ease of Use: 4/5
Call clarity: 3/5
Range: 3/5
Talk Time: 5 hours
Standby Time: 11 hours
Price range: $60-$80
Available at: Best Buy, Circuit City, Amazon.com

4. AT&T 5870 by vTech

5.8 GHz DSS Cordless Phone with Answering System and Talking Caller ID

The first thing you notice about this unit when you remove it from the box is that it takes up quite a bit of space. The base is quite large and somewhat heavy. The phone does feature programmable ringtones and an extended range. You can make calls outside the house and still hear the other party clearly without static or feedback. The unit is expandable to 6 headsets and even allows you to make calls from the base while the handset charges. The talking caller ID is loud and emits from the base as well as the handset. This is a feature we didn't find on many other models and it was a definite plus for this phone. The reason this phone ranks as number 4 on our list of the best cordless phones with talking caller ID is because although the phone has some good features, the weight of the handset and the lack of support from the manufacturer make this phone less attractive than it could be.

Ease of Use: 4/5
Call clarity: 4/5
Range: 4/5
Talk Time: 6 hours
Standby Time: 10.5 hours
Price range: $30-$50
Available at: eBay, AT&T Store

3. Panasonic KX-TG6052

5.8 GHz Expandable Cordless Phone

This phone is basic looking, but very functional. The unit comes with two handsets and has the capability to expand to four handsets. You can always count on clarity with this phone because it features voice enhancer technology. This unit also features a visual ringer so that hearing impaired individuals are able to see that the phone is ringing when the indicator flashes. The unit is wireless network compatible, meaning that it will not interfere with your wi-fi network. The reason this phone lands at number 2 on our list is because the call clarity is not comparable with the other models.

Ease of Use: 4/5
Call clarity: 3.5/5
Range: 4/5
Talk Time: 8 hours
Standby Time: 11 hours
Price range: $62
Available at: Circuit City

2. Uniden CEZAI998

Cordless Phone with Corded Phone on Main Unit

This phone looks like a very basic phone. The cordless handset's design may look a bit old fashioned, but the features it provides override the dated design. Of course it has talking caller ID or it wouldn't be on the list. The corded phone on the main unit is a huge plus since it allows you to use the phone in case of a power outage. The charging base is very small and can fit almost anywhere. The main unit and the handset both have large buttons that are easy to read and press. The phone also has a built in digital answering machine. The range is great and the sound clarity is impeccable. The price of this unit coupled with the features offered for this price make this our number 2 choice for the best cordless phones with talking caller ID. The reason this is not our number 1 choice is because the phone just doesn't have enough talk time.

Ease of Use: 5/5
Call clarity: 5/5
Range: 4/5
Talk Time: 7 hours
Standby Time: 14 hours
Price range: $80 - $100
Available at: Wal-Mart, Target, Amazon.com

1. Panasonic KX-TG5777PK

5.8 GHz Cordless Phone with 2 Handsets and Talking Caller ID

This phone truly stands alone. Not only is it more visually appealing, its features and compatibility help it stand out even more. The handsets feature a 1.5 inch high resolution color screens. The 5.8 GHz frequency means that it will not interfere with your home or office's wireless network. The clarity of this unit is as clear as any I've ever heard. There is no echo, feedback, static, or buzzing. This phone is completely silent as far as background noises are concerned. The unit boasts an extraordinary talk time and standby time as well. The unit even features a USB port for transferring pictures and ringtones to the handsets. This is the priciest phone on the list, but the features it offers along with its durability and reliability are well worth the price. This is definitely the best cordless phone with talking caller ID.

Ease of Use: 5/5
Call clarity: 5/5
Range: 5/5
Talk Time: 17 hours
Standby Time: 22 hours
Price range: $99 - $120

Psychological Evaluation Report
NAME OF THE EXAMINEE: Kyle Smith
DATE OF REPORT: November 28, 2005
EXAMINER: Kellie Fish

REFERRAL QUESTION/REASON FOR TESTING:
Kyle Smith came to me without being referred, because he is concerned about continuing his education. We met on several occasions to discuss his concerns and allow me a chance to interview Kyle about information I felt was pertinent to the issue at hand. Kyle has some doubts about whether he is qualified to attend the University of his choice, Duke University. He is also concerned with whether he will be successful at all in his future education and career. The purpose of testing Kyle is to provide him with guidance about his future college major and continuing education. Testing Kyle will help determine his strengths, weaknesses and interests to help him find the career and college major that best match his personality.

ASSESSMENT METHODS:
Examinee Biography
Otis-Lennon School Ability Tests (OLSAT)
California Psychological Inventory (CPI)
State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI)
Strong Interest Inventory (Strong)|
Big 5 Personality Inventory

EXAMINEE BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Kyle Smith is a 17 year old senior at Erwin High School in the small town of Erwin. He is 5'8″ and weighs about 143 lbs. Kyle lives with both of his parents and also has two older brothers who left the house when Kyle was around eight years old. Kyle's paternal grandfather was an alcoholic and abandoned his family when Kyle's dad was young. Kyle's dad only received a fifth grade education before he had to quit school to work in the mills. Now he works very hard and supports his family during the week, but is a weekend alcoholic. Kyle describes his dad as having two personalities: a caring family man, and an angry mean drinker. Kyle is very uncertain of his father's feelings toward him, because his father does not show very much emotion toward him. Kyle's mother is very ashamed of his father's drinking habits, and their family keeps his problem a secret from others. Kyle's mom also quit school at a young age, to care for her younger brothers and sisters after their mother passed away. It seems that she has spent the majority of her life caring for others, and is very nurturing and kindhearted, as well as honest. She constantly cares for Kyle's dad, despite his alcoholism, and in some ways, she compensates for his careless and reckless behaviors. Her efforts are probably what have held their family together despite her husband's drinking problem. However, she is also very ashamed of her husband and angry with him, although she rarely expresses her feelings. Kyle also tends to bottle his feelings up, and states that he takes his aggression out physically when playing ball. Kyle loves sports and is fairly athletic, despite his small stature. He feels that because of his small size, he must prove that he is just as capable in sports as his peers who are larger.

Kyle has been a hard worker since the age of 12. He has held many jobs, including a newspaper delivery route, and various positions on farms, in a grocery store, a department store, and at the mill. He is able to keep most of the money that he makes, and spends the majority of it on clothes and dates. He dates frequently, but just for companionship and entertainment. Kyle believes this is not the time in his life for a serious relationship, because he is too focused on achieving his goals. Kyle is an above-average student, who currently is a contestant for his class's valedictorian position, and has received many awards and honors for scholastic achievement. Kyle has a group of close friends who are also academically competitive. Kyle seems to be eager to please others. He does not fight with his parents often, and has much respect for them, despite their faults. Kyle is generally a “good kid”, who never does drugs or drinks, because he does not want to disappoint his mother.

Despite Kyle's many accomplishments and good qualities, he states that he is not very self-confident. For example, although he dates several girls regularly, there is another girl he would consider being in a serious relationship, but she is dating someone else. Kyle feels that her boyfriend is more qualified and deserving of her affection, so he has not made an attempt to date her or let her know of his interest in her. Kyle is very focused on his goals, but states that he believes he only accomplishes extraordinary things because he “Works harder than others” he also has expressed that he feels he has to work harder than others just to keep up. He does not attribute any of his success to raw talent. He worries a lot about what his family and teachers think of him, and he is very concerned because his math teacher told him that he was not capable of competing academically at Duke University, his dream school. Kyle is also not very reflective. As he states, he “just deals” with problems and situations as they arise, without taking into account what role they might have in his life. Kyle states several possible reasons for his lack of self-confidence, including his small size and his unstable family life. Kyle's lack of self-confidence is one of the reasons why he would like to participate in this psychological evaluation. Kyle feels that he needs to be pointed in the right direction, because he is not sure of the best education and career choices for someone with his interests and capabilities.

SUMMARY OF TEST RESULTS:
Otis-Lennon School Ability Tests (OLSAT):
The OLSAT is designed to give the respondent and the test-givers an idea of the respondent's academic capabilities. The OLSAT can be used to predict future academic performance, or to compare the level of current academic performance with the level of capability. The OLSAT is divided into two parts: verbal and nonverbal. The scores on these parts are expressed as raw scores, percentile ranks (in comparison to norms by age), and Stanine scores. For Stanine scores, mean=5 and SD=2.

Kyle's scores on the OLSAT are as follows, with raw scores in bold type, percentile rank in italics, and Stanine scores underlined:
Total Scores- 64,98th percentile, 9
Verbal Scores- 33, 95th percentile, 9
Nonverbal Scores- 31, 95th percentile, 8

California Psychological Inventory (CPI):
The CPI is designed to evaluate interpersonal behavior and social interaction within normal individuals ages 13 and older. Items on the inventory produce scores for 20 Folk Concept Scales. These scales are divided into four classes: Measures of Poise, Self-Assurance, and Interpersonal Proclivities; Measures of Normative Orientation and Values; Measurements of Cognitive and Intellectual Functioning; and Measures of Role and Personal Style. Raw scores for these scales are converted to standardized t-scores (mean= 50, SD=10) for the gender of the examinee. The CPI also produces scores for three vector scales (v.1, v.2, v.3). The v.1 scale, the interpersonal vector, shows orientation toward people. The v.2 scale, the intrapersonal vector, relates orientation toward societal values and norms. The v.3 scale, the self-realization vector, centers on attitudes about self. The v.1 and v.2 scales are used to categorize the examinee into one of four personality types: Alpha, Beta, Delta and Gamma. The v.3 scale is divided into seven categories that express the extent of self-satisfaction and realization, and is expressed in one of seven levels.

Kyle's scores on the CPI are as follows, with raw scores in italics, and the standardized scores (standardized for males) for the Folk Concept Scales in bold type, and divided into the afore mentioned categories:

Personality Type- Beta
v.3 (Self-Realization)- 48
Level- 6

State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI):
The STAI is the standard test used to measure anxiety in the field of Psychology. The test has two parts: 20 items to assess state anxiety, and 20 items to assess trait anxiety. State anxiety is the measure of anxiety at the present time, while trait anxiety is the measure of general anxiety.

Kyle's Scores on the STAI are listed below, with the raw score in bold type, and percentile rank in italics
State Anxiety- 44, 68th percentile
Trait Anxiety- 42, 60th percentile

Strong Interest Inventory:
The Strong measures the interests of the examinee in a range of occupations, work activities, leisure activities and school subjects. The Strong compares how these interests are similar to the interests of people who are successfully employed in those occupations. It is used to help people understand their work interests and to illustrate the kinds of work in which they might be satisfied. The Strong gives five main types of information: General Occupational Themes, Basic Interest Scales, Occupational Scales, Personal Style Scales, and Administrative Indexes. The General Occupational Themes show the level of interest in 6 general areas, types of occupations, or occupational environments. The Basic Interest Scales show the level of interest in 25 specific activities or areas. The Occupational Scales show how similar the respondent's educational or career choices are to those of men and women in 109 occupations. The Personal Style Scales show the level of comfort regarding four personal characteristics that may affect the respondent's educational or career choices. The Summary of Item Responses (which includes the Administrative Indexes) gives information about the number of items answered and likes vs. dislikes. The mean for the Occupational Scales is 35, with a standard deviation of 5. Means and standard deviations for other sections vary.

Kyle's scores for the Strong are listed below, categorized under the types of information that are listed above. For the General Occupational Scales and Basic Interest Scales, each listing is categorized into one of the following: very little interest, little interest, average interest, high interest, very high interest. For the Occupational Scales, the occupations are categorized into one of the following: very dissimilar, dissimilar, mid-range, similar, very similar. All scales are listed in rank order:

Big-5 Personality Inventory:
The Big-5 is an internet personality inventory survey, which measures five basic dimensions of personality: Extraversion, Emotional Stability, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, and Openness to Experience. Standard deviations and means were not reported, but the respondent's scores are compared to a mean, and the percentile rank for the scores is reported.

Kyle's scores on the Big-5 are listed below, with his score in bold type, and his percentile rank score in italics:
Extraversion-2.4, 2nd percentile
Agreeableness- 4.8, 92nd percentile
Conscientiousness- 5.5, 98th percentile
Emotional Stability- 3.4, 27th percentile
Openness- 5.2, 95th percentile

PSYCHOLOGICAL IMPRESSIONS:
Intrapersonal Functioning:
Kyle appears to have a somewhat negative and very modest opinion of himself. In the biography he wrote for me, and in conversations with him, it was obvious that he lacks confidence in his abilities. His low score on the Self-Acceptance scale of the CPI indicates that he is self-doubting, and blames himself when things do not turn out how he thinks that they should. He doubts his abilities in athletics and school, despite evidence that proves him to be more than capable. For example, during a session, Kyle described a situation in which he had won an academic award at school, but did not feel like he deserved to accept it. He stated that he was an “average” student, despite his above average grades and other scholastic achievements. Although the statistics would suggest that he is an exceptional ball player, Kyle appears to have little confidence in his athletic abilities. His low score on the Capacity for Status Scale of the CPI suggests that he is unsure of himself, and uncomfortable with this uncertainty. It appears that he has formed a negative opinion of himself as a result of his fear of the uncertain. In other words, Kyle would rather put himself down than risk giving himself credit where he is not sure he deserves it. Every outstanding achievement that Kyle mentioned to me was followed by a degrading comment such as “my class only has 51 students” (after sharing that he was a candidate for valedictorian of his class).

However, not all of Kyle's comments about himself were negative. He described himself as loyal, honest and hard-working. He told me that just about all situations pose a challenge for him, but he is very determined and focused, and will not let anything stand in the way of his goals. Kyle's high score on the responsibility scale of the CPI suggests that he is serious about his duties and obligations. His high scores on the conscientiousness dimension of the Big-5 Personality Inventory suggest that he has clear career goals that he pursues with determination, and that others regard him as reliable and hardworking. Because he was at the high end of the v.3 vector on the CPI, Kyle also appears to have high self-realization, competence and ego integration.

During interviews held with Kyle, and in his biography, he accredited most of these positive characteristics to his mothers' influence. His low scores on the CPI Independence Scale would suggest that Kyle seeks support and approval from others. His high scores on the Achievement via Conformance suggest that Kyle has a strong drive to do well. Taking into account these observances, Kyle's mother may be considered a strong external force in his life, who fulfills his need for support and approval. His coach appears to be another strong outside force. In a different way, Kyle's dad is also an external force that drives him to succeed. Kyle does not wish to end up like his dad, but his dad has set an example for him by his steady employment, and encourages Kyle to continue his education. Although these external motivators are strong in his life, Kyle has high levels of internal motivation as well. He succeeds even when he does not receive these outside reinforcements to give him confidence.

Kyle has a strong sense of self-control, as indicated by his high score on this scale of the SPI. He makes great efforts to control his emotions and anger, or to channel them into socially acceptable outlets (such as playing ball). Kyle's demanding desire to control his emotions often leads him to “keep things inside”. When confronted with a stressful situation, Kyle might be tempted to hold back all of his emotions. This is not necessarily a negative habit, because it appears help Kyle get things done. He expressed that when confronting any type of task, he does not take the time to think about how much effort it will take, he “just does it”. Bottling up anger and other strong emotions can be dangerous, so Kyle wisely takes some of his aggression out physically while playing ball. This allows him to dispose of these strong negative emotions, in a manner that is accepted by those around him. Kyle's v.1 and v.2 vector scales on the CPI place him in the “Beta” category, which also indicates that he values and protects his internal, private feelings, and likes to avoid public display or disclosure.

Kyle's biggest setback in intrapersonal functioning appears to be his ongoing struggles with his self-image. His scores on the Dominance, Social Presence, Self-Acceptance, and Independence Scales of the CPI all support this conclusion. His classification as a “Beta” type personality can be seen as further evidence. According to his Big-5 Personality Inventory, Kyle is introverted and reserved. His most notable strengths in intrapersonal functioning are probably his strong internal motivation, and his high levels of tolerance and openness, as seen in the Tolerance Scale of the CPI, and the Openness Dimension of the Big-5. Kyle seems to have a need for privacy and an internal orientation, but also conforms to social norms, as indicated by his “Beta” type classification on the CPI.

Interpersonal Functioning:
Kyle's previously mentioned scores have indicated that he is introverted, and keeps to himself. Kyle also has a strong need for social relationships, but is still considered a loner. Although he has a set of close friends, and many dates, Kyle does not feel comfortable in social situations. This is evidenced by his low scores on the Social Presence Scale and Sociability Scale of the SPI. Because Kyle is constantly seeking outside approval, he has a strong need for interpersonal contact. Kyle needs contact with his family, and his mother provides much-needed warmth and stability in his life. Kyle also dates regularly, for companionship and entertainment. Kyle's combination of the need for approval and the drive for success make him very competitive, and he tends to seek competition in all aspects of his life. Kyle has a good group of friends who are intellectually compatible with him, and he surrounds himself by these people to be stimulated and challenged constantly.

When confronted with difficult situations, Kyle might tend to withdraw and blame himself, as indicated by his “Beta” personality type, and the Self-Acceptance Scale of the CPI. This has historically been the case for Kyle, as he mentioned several occasions in which he felt defeated, blamed himself for the defeat, and then withdrew from the situation. One such occasion was when his first real girlfriend broke up with him. Kyle said that he became very depressed and kept to himself for awhile. However, on a positive note, Kyle seems to bounce back and recover from these situations. Although he was depressed when his girlfriend broke up with him, the depression did not last long and Kyle was soon dating a lot again.

Kyle appears to be very responsible and committed in all of his endeavors. His scores on the CPI and Big-5 all indicate that he takes responsibility for his actions. His history of excelling in athletics and school are also strong evidence of his ability to commit. While playing ball, Kyle must commit to practice and his team, and to achieve good grades, Kyle must commit to his schoolwork. Kyle is also a very capable student. He has high academic marks in high school, and he scored very high on the OLSAT. His extremely high scores on the OLSAT indicate that he would be very successful in college. His past academic achievements also indicate future success in furthering his education.
